National Standard for Laser Machine Tools Undergoes Key Revision

A recent seminar on revising the national standard for special-purpose machine tool terminology, specifically Part 9 concerning laser processing machines, has concluded. Led by Professor Xiao Rongshi from Beijing University of Technology, the revision introduces new terms for recently developed and widely adopted laser processing methods, machines, and key components. A significant change involves updating the naming convention for laser cutting machines, moving away from classifications based on laser type. The meeting also featured extensive discussion on proposals, including whether to include newer machine types like laser turning, milling, and grinding machines in the standard. The work aims to produce a draft for review by the end of March 2026.
